Whatever your interests, there are so many things to do from Britannia Cottage in nearby Norfolk to satisfy all ages. There are a number of leaflets about events which we aim to keep up to date in the cottage so make sure you take a look on arrival.

Norfolk Lavender - Heacham

Castle Rising castle An English Heritage 12th century castle just 9 miles south of Britannia Cottage is well worth exploring and the re-enactment days a special treat.

​

Wolferton Station - One of the hidden gems of the Royal Coast just 7 miles south of Heacham. Preserved as a nod to the station used by the Royal Family following the closure of the line in 1969, this slice of history and tradition is well worth a visit.

 

Sandringham House and Estate - The much loved country retreat of the British Royal Family and has been the private home to generations of British Monarchs since 1862. The surrounding Estate is some 243 hectares of Royal Parkland – hosting miles of wonderful woodland walks which are open to the public to enjoy throughout the year. With a Visitor Centre, shop and restaurant and the Children’s Woodland Play Area, this is a wonderful place to explore during your stay.

 

Holkham Hall and Estate - a Palladian style early 18th Century mansion and home of the Coke family. The hall which opens for the season from March (check exact times) is set in a large parkland full of nature trails and marked walks and is also home to varied species of deer. With cycle hire, boating, Woodland play, museums, shops and café, this is a great day out for all the family.

Houghton Hall & Gardens – a Palladian 18th Century mansion, Sculpture Park and Walled Garden with Exhibitions and café.

 

The North Norfolk Railway –(the Poppy Line) runs from the coats at Sheringham inland to the Georgian town of Holt

The Wells and Walsingham Light Railway – the world’s smallest public railway steams between the Norfolk seaside town of Wells-next-the-Sea and the beautiful Abbey village of Walsingham.
